The coaming is not attached to the skin, but not to the frame. It can be attached with pegs or nails, or sewn in, which is what I do. I drill 64 holes in the coaming, and thread unwaxed braided backing line through them, doubled up. In through one hole in the coaming, through the skin, and back out through the same coaming hole, and on to the next hole, and so on. To introduce some extra tension in the skin around the seating area, the coaming is pressed down before sewing: a plank is placed between the underside of the masik and the isserfik, and another plank across the top of the coaming, and the planks are pressed together using a clamp or similar. When the coaming is attached to the skin, the clamps are removed and will spring back a little, further tensioning the skin amidships. Total building time: 35 hours Next step: painting
